Boat Lift And Dock: Do You Need New Ones?

Do You Need a New Boat Lift And Dock?

Do you need a new boat lift and dock? The weather becomes warmer each passing day, and we, water fanatics, just want to be out in the lake having a good time! So we gather our things and make our way to our beloved boat when we see it… an old and rusty dock and lift!

If you’re a boat owner, you understand the importance of having a reliable dock and lift for your boat. Not only do they provide a secure place to store your boat, but they also ensure a smooth and hassle-free boating experience.

But nothing lasts forever, and over time, docks and lifts can wear down and need to be replaced to maintain your boat’s security.

Why You Need a New Boat Lift And Dock (2)

Why do you need a Dock and a Lift?

First off, let’s talk about docks. Imagine your precious boat… parked in your driveway. Doesn’t quite fit the picture, right? That’s where a dock comes in. It’s essentially your boat’s parking spot, right there in the water. A great dock gives your boat a safe, secure place to rest when it’s not out braving the Nebraskan waters. It’s also the perfect launching pad for all your aquatic adventures.

If a dock is a boat’s parking spot, a lift is the VIP valet service. A lift hoists your boat out of the water when it’s not in use, keeping it safe from the wear and tear of waves and weather. Plus, it makes maintenance and cleaning as easy as a summer breeze.

If you’ve ever felt the thrill of skimming across the vast expanse of Lake McConaughy or the serene calm of a sunset sail on Branched Oak Lake, you know that here in Nebraska, boating isn’t just a hobby – it’s a way of life.

A good dock and lift gives your boat the royal treatment it deserves, all while making your life easier. They protect your investment, prolong the life of your boat, and provide the convenience that leaves more time for what truly matters – enjoying our beautiful Nebraskan waters.

Here are a few signs that indicate it’s time for you to invest in a new dock and lift

    Your Dock is Rotting

“But it’s just a bit of rot,” you might think. “What’s the worst that could happen?” Well, imagine stepping onto your dock one sunny Nebraska morning, coffee in hand, ready for a day on the water – only to find yourself knee-deep in splinters because your dock has collapsed. Not exactly the start to the day you were hoping for, right?

While a wooden dock may add aesthetic appeal, it’s also more susceptible to rot and decay.

Rot is a fungus that eats away at the wood fibers, causing them to become soft and spongy. And this fungus loves the damp, dark environment that dock lifts provide. This can cause significant damage to your dock and even make it unsafe to use. Soft spots and splintered wood are common signs of rot and should be addressed immediately.

If you notice any signs of rot, replacing your dock is essential to prevent your boat from suffering any damage.

    Your Dock is Unstable

An unstable dock can shift or move unexpectedly, which can cause a person to slip and fall into the water, resulting in injuries or drowning.

A stable dock ensures a safe and secure platform for you and your passengers to board and unload your boat.

    Your Lift is Damaged

A damaged lift can be a severe safety hazard, both to people and boats. Delaying repairs can lead to further damage and even cause your boat to sink. If you notice any damage, it’s essential to replace your lift as soon as possible.

You can contact your Valley Marine in the Midwest area or your closest boat dealership for lifts and dock repairs.

Why You Need a New Boat Lift And Dock (3)

Your Dock And Lift are Outdated

If your dock and lift are not compatible with your new boat or have outdated features, it might be worth upgrading to keep up with your watercraft’s changing needs. Investing in a modern dock and lift can provide a safer, more efficient, and hassle-free docking experience.

Let’s face it: there is nothing worse than missing out on all the lake fun because we need to wait for Dock and Lift repairs! It’s better to always check the condition of your equipment to make sure you don’t miss any adventure days!

However, If you’re in the market for a new dock and lift, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

    Choose The Right Material.

Docks and lifts are constructed using various materials such as wood, aluminum, plastic, and vinyl. Each material has its pros and cons; take the time to choose one that fits your budget, aesthetics, and durability needs.

For instance, wooden docks are beautiful, but they require high maintenance and are susceptible to rot and decay. Aluminum docks, on the other hand, are durable, low maintenance, and perfect for brackish water, but they are not everyone’s cup of tea.

Consider the Size of Your Boat

Size matters – especially when it comes to your boat and its dock. You wouldn’t try to park a semi-truck in a compact car spot, would you? Similarly, your boat needs a dock and lifts that can handle its size, weight, and the number of passengers you plan to bring along for the ride.

An ideal Dock and Lift will fully protect all areas of your boat.  You also need to think about the depth of the water, the tidal range, and your boat’s draft to choose a dock that can accommodate them.

Why You Need a New Boat Lift And Dock (4)

Choose a Boat Lift and Dock That is Easy to Maintain

As we discussed, there are many materials you can use, some more high maintenance than others. It is totally up to you to decide what material to invest in; however, make sure it is the best of its kind for your budget needs and easy to maintain.

We aren’t talking just about choosing aluminum over wood but rather picking wisely the quality of the material and the best brand that will make your lifts and docks.

Choose a Boat Lift and Dock that is Durable

The lifespan of your dock and lift depends on the materials they are made with and the frequency of maintenance. Ensure you choose one that is durable, longer-lasting, and built to withstand harsh weather conditions, water fluctuations, and environmental elements like algae and barnacles.

The durability of your material will depend on the brand you choose and the weather conditions where you live. Make sure to do your research to pick the best materials for you.

Why You Need a New Boat Lift And Dock

Maintain the Quality of Your Boat

A good dock is like a five-star hotel for your boat – a place where it can kick back, relax, and stay safe from the harsh elements. A quality lift, on the other hand, is like a personal trainer for your boat – keeping it fit and ready to take on the waves at a moment’s notice.

Without these two heroes, your boat would be like a fish out of water – literally! It’d be exposed to the cruel whims of Mother Nature, and we all know she can be pretty ruthless at times. That’s why investing in a new dock and lift from Valley Marine is more than just a purchase – it’s a declaration of love for your boat.

If you’re looking for a high-quality dock and lift, Rhino Docks is where to look. Rhino Docks are made from durable materials and are easy to maintain, so you know they can take whatever Mother Nature throws at them. They are also available in a variety of sizes to accommodate any boat.

  • The GoTo Boat Maintenance Checklist You Need For Summer 2023

The GoTo Boat Maintenance Checklist You Need For Summer 2023

Is it boat maintenance time again? Summer is in full swing, and it’s finally the perfect time and season to relax in your summer boat. However, before jumping right into the lake, we must ensure your boat is prepared and maintains its functionality.

Doing a pre-check-up can save you from potential inconveniences when on the water. From checking your engine’s performance to ensuring all safety features, our Valley Marine go-to list guarantees a smooth ride on the Midwest waters.

    Boat Checklist For Summer 2023

The last thing we want is for our boat to be towed from the water on the first day of our summer adventures; this can ruin the rest of the season, and, believe us, most repair services and boat dealers in Nebraska are packed with work during these days, and it can take weeks for your watercraft to be ready. So save some time and money by checking your boat now and avoid any water problems that can stop your summer fun.

    Safety Equipment

Checking for your safety equipment is the first thing you always want to do before starting the season and every time you step on your boat. Make sure that your kit  is in order and includes the following:

    Life jackets

Have the right type and size for each person on board. In addition to checking that you have enough life jackets, you’ll want to make sure that they’re in good condition and up-to-date.

    Flares

Flares are essential for signaling for help when you need assistance, as they can be seen from far distances. If something goes wrong, carrying flares on your boat will provide peace of mind. Check for expiration dates or signs; you can also try one to ensure they light up.

    First aid supplies kit

A well-stocked first aid kit is also critical for any boating outing. Your kit should include basic supplies such as bandages, antiseptic, pain relievers, and any prescription medications that members of your party may need.

    Marine fire extinguisher

A fire extinguisher could be the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major catastrophe. Don’t let the thought of a potential fire ruin your next adventure. After all, luxury is all about having the best safety measures.

Not all boats require a fire extinguisher, so make sure to check your boat’s specifications to see if one is necessary.

By taking these simple precautions, you can help ensure that your outings are safe and enjoyable for everyone on board.

    used boat engine hours (1)

    Engine And Fuel System

To keep that engine running smoothly and efficiently, it’s essential to perform regular checks on it throughout the year. Check your engine fluids, like oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and other lubricants. Without them, the engine components can be damaged and cost a pretty penny to fix.

You can check all your engine fluid with a dipstick; most boats come with one; however, if you don´t have one, a good tip is to use a a plastic zip tie.

Ensure your file system is not leaking or clogged with dirt or trash. Change any filters if needed and check all hoses for signs of wear or damage that can easily break them later down the line.

    Electrical System

Before you hit the water, make sure to give your electrical system a thorough inspection. Trust us; you don’t want to find yourself stranded in the middle of the ocean with a dead battery. Check that all of your connections are well-secured and not rotted; this will prevent any connection loss or intermittent running issues.

It’s easy to check if your wiring and batteries are working correctly. All you need is a multimeter. This handy tool measures DC (amps), resistance (ohms), and voltage.

Check all your lights, switches, and anything that might need a battery change or replacement piece. Everything must work properly in case of any unwanted situation.

    Walk around inspection

A thorough walk-around inspection of the boat can help detect any problems you might have missed at first glance. A final walk-around will help ensure your vessel is in good condition and ready for an enjoyable time in the open waters. During this inspection, you should check things like the string wheel, scratches or dings, any loose parts such as screws or bolts, and all other areas of concern.

This inspection will also help you identify comfort and aesthetic issues, like seating damage or tear, any satins in the outer or inner part of the boat, or see if any detailing work is needed.

    Know all the specs.

Knowing your boat’s specifications, like how many people it holds and what type of equipment is included, is essential for staying safe on the water.

Researching and looking at your boat’s characteristics can give you an idea of your needs before sailing out.

Moreover, knowing your boat’s specifications is essential for ensuring your safety and security. Familiarizing yourself with the vessel’s features, such as navigation and communication systems, anchor equipment, and safety gear, can help you respond better to emergencies and unexpected situations.

    Boat Maintenance Service

If you need help with going through all the previous steps or simply don’t have the time to do it yourself, have a certified mechanic check your boat, especially if it has been sitting unused for more than a month.

Professional inspections ensure that your craft is functioning correctly and has complete equipment.

Contact our Service Center for quick boat repair and maintenance from our award-winning professionals. At Vally Marine, we are Ready to prepare your boat for extended use this summer season; we´ll make sure that any problems arise while you’re out enjoying yourself on the Omaha waters.

  • New Boaters Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

New Boaters Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

Are you a new boater looking to make the most of your time on the water? If so, it’s important to be aware of some of the most common mistakes that new boaters make so you are prepared for everything!

These types of mistakes can put you and your passengers at risk. There’s a lot to learn, and mistakes are easy.

It’s crucial to familiarize yourself with some of the most prevalent errors that newcomers to boating often commit. By being well-prepared and knowledgeable about these potential pitfalls, you can ensure a smoother, safer, and more enjoyable time while navigating the open waters.

Here are some of the most common mistakes that new boaters make

    Not Getting The Proper Training

Boat safety shouldn’t be taken lightly! One of the biggest mistakes that new boaters make is not getting the proper training.

Just as you’d buckle up and learn the rules of the road before driving a car, it’s equally essential to enroll in a boating safety course before making a splash. This will teach you the basics of boating, including how to operate your boat safely, handle emergencies, and navigate the water.

    First aid boating

    Not Planning Ahead

With a bot waiting for us, what is there to plan? We have the perfect weekend activity ready! Well, it is not that easy. Before you head out, it’s important to plan your route on every water trip and check the weather forecast to make sure you have all the necessary supplies.

It’s also a good idea to let someone know where you’re going, with whom, and when you expect to be back. Even if all the weather conditions are perfect, this will give you and everyone on board peace of mind.

Not Knowing the Rules of the Road

The “Rules of the Road” in boating refer to a set of recognized guidelines designed to prevent collisions and ensure safe navigation on the water, from a lake to the open sea, each body of water has its own set of road rules; these are basically the dos and don´ts of sailing.

It’s essential to be aware of these rules before you head out on the water. You can find information about the laws of the road for your area at your local boating authority web page or office. The Game and Parks Committee establishes the boating regulations in Nebraska.

New Boaters Aren’t Prepared For Emergencies

Nobody wants to hear this, but even if you have all the required training, you can put yourself and others in danger if you are not ready with the proper emergency equipment.

Always be prepared; this means having the proper and mandatory safety equipment on board, such as life jackets, flares, and a first-aid kit.

It’s also a good idea to know how to use your boat’s safety features, such as the fire extinguisher, how to put on a life jacket, or even having first aid training.

    Overloading Your Boat.

Another big mistake new boaters make is overloading it. This can make it difficult to control and can even be dangerous. The weight capacity indicates the maximum weight the boat can safely carry, including passengers, cargo, and fuel.

This mistake can easily be fixed by knowing your boat’s weight capacity and doesn’t exceed it. This information is usually included in the owner’s manual or can be found online.

    Mistakes to avoid when boating

    New Boaters Speeding

Speed limits are implemented for a reason: to ensure the safety of everyone on the water, and boats can reach high-speed limits very fast! Suddenly, maneuvers at high speeds can become unmanageable and difficult to control.

It is important to note that speed limits vary depending on the body of water, the time of the day, and other environmental factors. Generally, speeds are reduced in areas with limited passing zones, on windy or narrow channels, or where the water is shallow or congested with other boaters or water vessels.

So always be mindful of the speed limit when you’re boating.

    Drinking And Boating

This one might seem like common sense, but if you forgot, we are here to tell you: Drinking and boat is never safe.

Alcohol impairs your judgment and coordination, making it difficult to operate a boat safely. If you’re going to be drinking, it’s best to have a designated boater to take everybody home safely!

Common New Boaters Mistakes And How To Avoid Them (2)

    Not Cleaning Up After Yourself

We all love a clean and calm water lake, and this is only possible if we take care of it, not to mention that not cleaning up after oneself while boating can harm the environment.

Avoid leaving trash behind or damaging wildlife, and always be respectful of the environment you are sailing on.

Common New Boaters Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

    No New Boaters Mistakes

As the captain of your vessel, it’s essential to communicate clearly with your passengers about safety protocols, their roles onboard, and what to expect during the trip. This will help ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment while on the water.

By avoiding all these new boaters’ mistakes and being thoughtful of your boating activities, you can help ensure that your time on the water is safe and enjoyable for everyone and that you are a responsible boater! If you are still looking for a boat to start your saline journey, you have come to the right place! Book a Test Drive at Valley Marine to find your perfect boat!

  • Choosing the Best Family Boat: A Complete Guide

Choosing the Best Family Boat: A Complete Guide

Choosing the Best Family Boat that pleases everyone’s needs can be a difficult task. There are so many factors to consider to ensure comfort and safety, such as the size of your family, the type of activities you want to do on the water, and your budget.

The last thing you want is to buy a boat that your family won’t enjoy, so going your research and taking the time to compare your options can help you make the best decision for you and your needs. To help you narrow down your choices, here are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. Consider the Size of Your Family.

When considering the size of the boat you need, the size of your family is a major factor. If there are only a few people in your family, you may be able to get away with a smaller boat. However, if your family is larger, you will need to make sure the boat is big enough to hold everyone comfortably.

Additionally, you may need to consider the size of the motor if you also plan to use the boat for watersports or fishing. Make sure the motor is powerful enough to handle the size and weight of your family and any additional gear you may be bringing along.

    2. Think About the Activities You Want to do on the Water.

Do you want to go fishing? Swimming? Water skiing?

Once you know what activities you want to do on the water, you can start to narrow down your choices. Consider factors such as cost, safety, and convenience. Make sure to choose a boat that checks all the boxes and that you feel comfortable within your budget.

For example, if you want to go water skiing, you will need a boat that is powerful enough to tow a skier, something more sport-like. If you plan on spending relaxin summers on the Omaha lake with your friends, you don’t really need a powerful motor for sports.

A Guide to Choosing the Best Boat

    3. Set a Budget for Your Family Boat

Before you begin shopping for boats, it’s important to set a budget for yourself so you don’t overspend. This will help you narrow down your search to boats that fit within your price range.

Make sure to research and compare different boat models, features, and prices to ensure you are getting the best value for your money.

Additionally, you can look into Financing options to help you make the purchase; you don´t need to wait that long to get that new boat. Contact us to apply for financing.

Finally, don’t forget to factor in maintenance and repair costs when setting your budget, especially if you are getting a used boat.

    4. Do Your Research.

Once you have considered the factors above, you can start to do your research. Read online reviews, talk to other boat owners, and visit boat dealerships. The more research you do, the better equipped you will be to make a decision.

    5. Visit a Boat Dealership.

Visiting a boat dealership is an invaluable part of the boat-buying process. It allows you to see the boats in person, inspect them up close, and gain a better understanding of their features, capabilities, and size.

Speaking with an expert at the dealership can also be incredibly helpful, as they can provide detailed answers to any questions you may have about the boat and the buying process. They can also suggest models and features that may fit your needs and lifestyle better.

Ultimately, visiting a boat dealership can help you make an informed decision and ensure that you are getting the right boat for you. If you live in Nebraska or the Midwest, don’t hesitate to visit us and talk to our expert staff.

    6. Take a Test Drive.

Once you have found a boat that you are interested in, it is a good idea to take it for a test drive. This will give you a chance to see how the boat handles and make sure it is the right fit for your family.

At Valley Marine, we offer Test Drive services to all of our clients; not sure about that boat yet? Don’t worry! Schedule an appointment with us and try your new boat.

    7. Don’t Forget About the Extras.

It is easy to get carried away with the excitement of a new boat and forget some details, but if you should remember something is the extras, never forget about the extras.

You will need to purchase necessary extra items such as life jackets, a first-aid kit, and a boat cover. Additionally, you may want to look into other items, such as a fire extinguisher, navigation equipment, a marine radio, and a waterproof tarp to protect your boat from the elements.

If you plan on towing your boat regularly, you will also need to invest in a trailer or a towable dolly, since most boats don’t include it, as well as a hitch and the necessary cables or straps to secure your boat.

Lastly, you will want to make sure you have the necessary tools and supplies to maintain and repair your boat, such as a toolkit, spare parts, and spare fuel for a quick fix.

    8. Get the Right Family Boat Insurance.

Just like any other vehicle, your boat needs to be insured to be financially protected in the event of an accident or any damage.

Boat insurance can provide coverage for repairs or replacement of the boat itself if needed, as well as any, in the worst-case scenario, medical expenses for you or anyone else involved in an accident.

It can also provide coverage for damage caused by storms and other natural disasters, as well as for theft or vandalism. Furthermore, boat insurance can also provide protection for any liability claims that may arise from your boat. So get ahead of the game and find the right insurance for your boat.

    choosing a family boat

    9. Take a Boating Safety Course.

For our clients, the most important thing is always their family, so taking a boating safety course is an excellent way to become familiar with the laws and regulations governing watercraft, as well as gain an understanding of how to properly operate your boat and keep your family safe and out of trouble.

Boating safety courses are provided by a wide variety of organizations, including the U.S. Coast Guard. These courses typically cover topics such as boat registration, navigation, equipment requirements, emergency response, basic boat handling, and water safety.

Participants are usually given the opportunity to practice on-water maneuvers in interactive activities such as simulations and hands-on practice. Upon completion of the course, you might receive a certificate, which may be used to obtain a boating license or insurance, even a discount!

    10. Have Fun in Your New Family Boat!

Buying a boat is a big investment, but it is also a lot of fun. Boating is a great way to spend time with your family and friends. So get out there and enjoy the water!

If you are looking for a boat dealership in Omaha, Nebraska, be sure to visit Valley Marine. We have a wide selection of boats to choose from, and our knowledgeable staff can help you find the perfect boat for your needs. We also offer financing options to make it easy to get the boat you want.
